This is my alltime favorite World Series game.
I was nine at the time and can tell you exactly where I was sitting when somebody who had brought his transitor radio to school told us how it ended.
Too bad for Hal Smith that he didn't go down as the all timer, but this probably helped put Maz over the top for the hall of fame which he certainly deserved.

Greatest single moment in sports history for those over 50 and an actual memory of the event. Too bad it was not in prime time because so many missed at work or school.

I was eight years old on October 13, 1960, when Bill Mazeroski hit the shot heard 'round the world, off Ralph Terry at 3:35 PM EST. The heavily favored Yankees lost in seven games to the Pirates. Pirate utility man Gino Cimoli summed it all up beautifully: "The Yankees set all the records, but the Pirates won the Series".
